Forza Motorsport 7

Forza Motorsport 7 pushed the Xbox racing envelope even further, with 30 tracks and a stable of more than 700 cars. FM7 was the biggest Forza ever.

A significant challenge for the Lighting team was to improve upon the image fidelity of FM6 without a hit to perf. A daunting challenge by itself, it also had to be done alongside the introduction of dynamic weather with rainstorms, lightning, animated atmosphere, and dynamic puddles.

And we had to contend with even more: a scalable solution was needed to allow us to deliver simultaneously on the Xbox One, Windows 10, and the new Xbox One X (‘Project Scorpio’). That meant finding best-in-class lighting solutions for a native 4K/60 fps player experience.

The team delivered on that experience, and added refinements to the off-line baking workflow, improved shadows and reflections, revamped lighting tools and workflow for Cinematics, and the standardization of look development and lighting values to enable reliable output to both HDR and SDR.
